Lanterns and Magic: Glowfari Lights Up the Season

This winter, Oakland Zoo invites you to experience the magic of Glowfari, the much-loved lantern festival that transforms the Zoo into an illuminated wonderland. From December 1, 2024, to January 26, 2025, marvel at an all-new lineup of larger-than-life animal lanterns.

This year’s event features an exciting journey through imaginative landscapes. Drift along the Nile to encounter giraffes and hippos beside ancient Egyptian wonders. Wander through a whimsical farm filled with barnyard favorites, or scale alpine peaks to meet creatures like ibex and alpacas. Travel back in time as dinosaurs reclaim the California Trail in glowing splendor.

Make sure to ride the Express Train to Wild Australia or take the festively lit Gondola to see the dinosaur lanterns. Santa will make nightly appearances from December 1–23, 6:00–9:00 pm (weather permitting).

Warm up with hot chocolate from one of the Zoo’s snack spots or visit the Gift Shop for holiday treasures. While the Zoo’s resident animals stay cozy indoors, the proceeds from Glowfari directly support their care, as well as Oakland Zoo’s education and conservation programs.
